S.T.R.A.P Is Boots On The Ground!

Since 2015, the S.T.R.A.P. Campaign, fueled by the passion of M.A.Z.E At The Crossroads (Subsidiary of MAZE Youth Advocacy), was founded by the remarkable Ms. Sandy Love, who is also a true survivor of sex trafficking.

S.T.R.A.P Campaign

As a former United States veteran, Ms Sandy has tirelessly researched and gathered empirical evidence to educate governmental systems and the community on the innovative trafficking tactics used. Her journey began with a dedicated team of eight volunteers working with the Texas Juvenile Justice Department (TJJD), where they conducted a comprehensive five-year study on youth in and out of detention centers and adult prisons. These findings have shed light on diverse areas of concern.

Empirical evidence highlights three crucial areas of concern (Pre and Post):

1. Awareness
2. Prevention
3. Predatory Exposure

Empirical evidence also suggests that Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory is applicable:

Levels of needs:

  • Safety needs: Security, stability, protection from harm.

  • Love and belonging needs: Social connection, intimacy, friendship, family.

  • Esteem needs: Self-respect, recognition, status, achievement.

  • Self-actualization needs: Fulfilling one's potential, personal growth, creativity

  • Physiological needs: Necessities like food, water, shelter, sleep.

Our Mental Health Component Centers On:

  • Tailored Mental Health Assessment

  • Multi-Disciplinary Therapy Approach

  • Mental/Behavioral Monitoring

S.T.R.A.P Training OVERVIEW.

STRAP's sex trafficking training overview typically covers the definition of sex trafficking and key elements of the crime, including force, fraud, and coercion, and identifies potential victim profiles and risk factors. Our focus will center on recognizing warning signs, outlining appropriate response strategies for identifying and assisting victims, and emphasizing the importance of reporting suspected cases to relevant authorities, all while maintaining a trauma-informed approach to support survivors.

Below are a few key topics.

  1. Defining sex trafficking as the forced, fraudulent, or coerced commercial exchange of sexual acts while emphasizing its global prevalence and impact on specific communities.

  2. Exploring demographics that increase vulnerability to trafficking, including economic hardship, unstable housing, low education, abuse history, and immigration status.

  3. Explaining how traffickers manipulate and control victims through tactics like debt bondage, threats, isolation, and psychological manipulation.

  4. Providing a brief list of signs of sex trafficking, including behavior changes, unexplained injuries, restricted communication, and suspicious living conditions.

  5. ............and more!
